To be water, what a wild ride.
To join a hurricane, a waterfall, a geyser.
Becoming millions of little raindrops
that fall, fall, fall, splash, splash, splash.
To be frozen for centuries on a mountain peak,
to be suddenly set free by an avalanche.
To rush along for miles in mighty rivers,
and get lost again in the vastness of the ocean.
To be a lonely drifting iceberg,
slowly dissolving away in the salty ocean.
To quench the thirsty earth and organisms
before floating back up into the bright sky.
To be dewdrops on a spider’s web,
and a snowflake on a child’s tongue.
To be the sweat and tears of great men and women,
the humble blood of life itself.
It has a lot of stories to share with you,
If you only lend your ears to the rain.
I have made friends with water.
This is what it says if you listen:
My name is Hydrogen Dioxide,
I’m the real Elixir of Life.
I’ve been around a long, long time.
I still swing through the primordial vacuum
where I was born so long ago.
Your planet, however, is my favorite place.
I like to hide in deep caverns and aquifers.
I like how it feels to seep into sand and clay.
I like to be poured steaming over coffee grounds.
I like to bubble away for centuries in hot springs.
I like to rush along for miles in massive rivers.
I like to carve the ground into grand canyons.
I like to leap spectacularly in geyser blasts.
I like to plunge down big waterfalls.
I like to crystallize into ice in midair.
I like to be snowballs and water balloons.
I like to be carbonated, but that’s a guilty pleasure.
I could go on and on forever,
there are not many things I don’t enjoy doing.
