Leave me be, loud alarm.
I am at leisure, relaxing.
Be still, tolling bell.
Call the hour no more.
Harken not, my heart.
Heed not, my head.
I need not take part.
I am already dead.
Out, out, abhorrent light,
Before you blind my eyes.
If you destroy my darkness
I will be forced to rise.
My secret shadows brought to light
Only rob me of my beauty.
You tear the precious veil of peace
When you seek and speak your previous truth.
I will give no God my blood,
Nor any flag a salutation,
And I require no salvation
For I bear not your chains.
There is nothing above the solid earth
No power, knowledge, or love is there.
All glory is vanity, and all glory lies
In the pastimes of mankind.
Let men do whatever they do.
Only power puts man above man.
And no matter the power, impotent
In the face of the ultimate, the end.
So be still, tedious pendulum,
Find your rest in the lowest place.
Let the hours go uncounted
And the calendars be forgotten.
Let the night never be ruined by sunrise.
Let no star shine brighter than the rest.
Let us have no use for eyes or ears.
Let us still the mad hearts in our chests.
Bury not my flesh and bones
But leave them for the dogs and rats.
For nothing will disturb my slumber
When this nightmare has finally passed.
Born I was unwarned and unwilling.
Born to weep and work and wither.
My body does what it feels it must
And for it I am forced to suffer.
The only mercy is the absence of immortality.
I rest in the fact that life will never last.
The world’s conflicts will soon subside
And the final star will soon have died.
