My mind is not like the sun
that shines in the clear blue sky.
My heart is not like the moon
Amidst a sky of glittering stars.
My eyes aren’t as pretty
as the spring wildflowers in bloom.
My hair does not flow perfectly
like a stream over smooth stones.
My skin is not as soft and clean
As blankets of freshly fallen snow.
My voice is not as clear and crisp
As birdsong in the morning air.
My spine is not as strong and straight
As the sacred cedar or noble pine.
Being human is a burden of mine
But I wouldn’t trade it for another fate.
I put no spite in what I have said
I have no room for that in my head.
I love my body from my ears to my toes
But I love the world more than anyone knows.
