Exclusive: Elusive Costal Cairns Captured on Camera

Breathtaking photographs of wild Cairns in their natural habit like these are extremely rare. The elusive creatures are rarely seen in the open, as they are solitary and typically avoid humans. However, on the coast of Puget Sound in Port Townsend, Washington USA they seem to have recently become accustomed to human presence. By gaining the trust of these creatures over time, one brave and dedicated photographer has been able to capture an unprecedented number of new specimens on camera. The images are truly remarkable, and contribute greatly to our understanding of these mysterious creatures.

The Colossal Cairn was once thought to be extinct, but these images prove that there is a thriving population in the Puget Sound and Olympic peninsula region of the United States.

Because of their status as an endangered species, it is illegal for Cairns to be taken out of their natural habitat for study. As such, very little is known about them. Scientists are using these photographs to gain insight into their unique anatomy, but are still struggling to determine where they come from, how they move, reproduce, and sustain themselves. Because of the frustrating lack of scientific insight, speculation has run rampant. Some claim that they are elaborate hoaxes, others believe them to be a sign of the end of days. No current theories have been scientifically validated. For now all we can do is admire their beauty from a respectful distance.

If you see a Cairn in the wild, do not attempt to make physical contact. There have been no reported cases of Cairns physically harming humans to date, but it is still unwise to approach any cairns you may see, as they are wild creatures and their behavior is unpredictable.
