Leave behind the haunted house
You have built around yourself
Full of funhouse mirrors,
Creepy noises, creaky doors
and squeaky floorboards.
I can tell
You’re waiting for the screams,
The gunshot slap, the sobbing,
To arrive at any moment.
Stop,
Let your shoulders loose,
Let your belly breathe.
Let your feet fall when you walk,
Lift yourself tall when you talk.
You are safe here, in this house.
You can speak at full volume.
You can leave your door unlocked.
You can come into the kitchen
When you feel like hanging out.
This is not a haunted house
And I know you’re not a ghost.
