Wherever I turn, all I can see
Is a kaleidoscope of glittering green
swaying and swirling hypnotically.
A symphony of small, mysterious sounds
from infinite invisible species
Colonize my mind and consume my thoughts.
I trek endless miles in search of the ancient ruins.
Sweat cools like invisible raindrops on my skin.
Every aching footstep falls where angels fear to tread.
My breaths are rapid explosions and implosions.
My muscles pump like red-hot steel pistons.
My blood courses like the Amazon in my veins.
Every subtle sign leads me on like a bloodhound.
Every precious petroglyph is an epiphany.
I use all the clues on the old scrap of the map.
I dodge the death traps with seconds to spare.
I cautiously enter the innermost chamber.
My dwindling torch is the only illumination.
A voice calls out in an unknown language,
But the question is clear:
Why are you here?
