Whisked away by frigid winter winds,
thousands of soft, silvery snowflakes
descend in droves from cumulus clouds
they dance dizzily, drunk and carefree
above the vast frosty forest they fly
in a hurry, all a flurry, fast and foolish
until finally finding a faraway field
to fall flat upon, in fluffy blankets of sparking white.
Meanwhile in the red western sky
the radiant orb of the setting sun
sinks lower into the blushing horizon
casting warm colors through the silky clouds
spread out sleepily over the dusky mountains
and the starry curtain of the night
Slides slowly across the curves of the Earth.
